History, Mindfulness and Wellness. (See attached poster)Join us at Fort Dufferin on September 28th (10:00-12:00) for our third Wellness Walk+ where we will begin with a short QiGong mindfulness practice, then walk the beautiful Crow Wing trail along the Red River. QiGong is a simpler form of Tai Chi. It is a mindfulness practice that will help to warm up the body with gentle focused movement and rhythmic breathing, creating a focused meditative state in preparation for our wellness walk.Participants choose their own walking distance (max. two hours). Upon your return, visit and explore the Fort Dufferin site at your leisure and enjoy a hot beverage with a healthy snack made with local ingredients.Outhouses are available at the entrance of the Fort Dufferin site. This will be a presentation on the topic of Seed Saving, where you will learn various techniques and tips for saving seeds. Instructor Elsie Kathler will share her knowledge on saving seeds with us.The workshop will be held Wednesday September 11, 6:30p.m. at the Ridgeville Hall.Pre-registration is requested at meloskydebbie@gmail.com, with a $10 fee to be paid at the door. On Wednesday August 21 Woodmore WI held their annual outing. This year we decided to stay close to home and visit a local restaurant and artist studios. Members met at the Ridgeville Club for a delicious lunch before heading to "The Keep". This is the home of 3 artists and a small business owner of "Thrive Like a Wildflower. This is a 300-acre area with their studios and homes. At "The Keep" we were joined by community members for a tour hosted by the property owner Heather Bishop, whose career was as a singer - songwriter. We visited the studios, a tiny house, a geodesic greenhouse and Heather Bishop's home which she built herself. It was an extremely interesting afternoon.#manitobawomensinstitute #community ... On Wednesday August 14 Woodmore WI hosted a Sauerkraut making workshop. This was held under our Food Security program. The instructor was our Woodmore WI member Diane St. Hilaire. This was a hands-on workshop where everyone went home with a jar of sauerkraut that they make, plus a weight and fermentation lid.
